Ice Cream + A Giveaway!

by Tokyo Terrace on August 9, 2011

*This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered! I’ll be announcing the winner on Friday, August 19th!

Have you noticed how hot its been lately? When Brad and I were driving from Colorado to Minnesota two weeks ago, the car thermometer went over 100 degrees several times. It was just wrong. The only thing that ever sounded edible was some form of a frozen treat- that seems to be happening to me a lot lately… I guess the good news is that I’ll be ready for the heat when I get off the plane in Tokyo on Wednesday!

Hot weather or not, when you ask a pregnant woman if she wants to ice cream, the answer is probably always YES! What about the offer to sample 6 different kinds of the ice cream? Ice cream known as Oprah’s favorite? Then it’s an absolutely YES! Well, I just happen to be a pregnant woman- 5 1/2 months along already. So when I was asked to sample ice cream from Graeter’s this summer, I jumped at the chance.

Graeter’s has recently become available in Minnesota. I’ve seen it on the shelves at several Kowalski’sstores, which was lucky because someone in my house decided to eat some of the ice cream while I was gone…mother…cough cough…and I had to replace it. I guess that’s a good sign that the ice cream is pretty darned delicious. It can also be found at Lund’s, Byerly’s and select Whole Foods locations.

Sometimes you have to eat it out of the container...

Aside from the fact that this ice cream is super tasty, it’s made with all natural ingredients and is hand packed. I think that’s pretty awesome (especially since I’m eating ice cream for two these days).

One of my favorite flavors is Mocha Chocolate Chip. Coffee flavored ice cream has always been a favorite of mine, but Graeter’s has such an authentic coffee flavor without being too bitter. And the chips- this was something I was pleasantly surprised by- are not rock hard and tasteless like so many other flavors. Instead, the texture is just what chocolate should be. Not frozen until it tastes like plastic, but just soft enough to taste of rich chocolate and just hard enough to add a nice bite in contrast to the luxurious ice cream.

Strawberry was another lovely flavor. It tastes a lot like my mom’s homemade strawberry ice cream, which is one of my favorite summer indulgences.

Are you feeling hungry for ice cream now? I am. But I am always feeling hungry for ice cream… Well, I have some good news! One of you will be able to receive a 6-pint pack of assorted flavors from Graeter’s! The contest begins TODAY and ends Wednesday, August 17th.

Here is the info on how you can enter:

1. Leave a comment below that has something to do with ice cream. It can be a story, your favorite flavor, or your favorite time to eat ice cream. If you have any other creative ways to work ice cream into the comment, go for it! I’ll be using random.org to select the winner.

2. For a bonus entry, ‘Like’ Graeter’s on facebook, then come back here to leave a comment letting me know you’ve done so.

3. For yet another bonus entry, announce the giveaway on twitter and come back here to leave a comment letting me know you’ve done so.

*Unfortunately we can only ship to those in the lower 48 United States (sorry Alaskans/Hawaiians) since the product needs to be sent quickly so you don’t get stuck with a melted mess of a box.

Good luck and happy ice cream eating everyone!

I used to love Ben and Jerry’s and that was before I took nutrition classes and paid attention to food labels. After finding out that they use natural flavorings, I decided to try the local ice cream shops here in SFO. Amazing choices! I love Birite’s Salted Caramel Ice cream and put it between sliced biscuits (I’m Filipino! we eat ice cream with bread!) and it’s soooo awesome. My other friends think it’s a weird combination but the salty-salty sweet combo is amazing. I have also discovered Humphry Slocombe’s Secret Breakfast (corn flakes+bourbon) ice cream So yuumyyy!

The classic cup is my favorite style.. Thats the name I gave it after seeing my father eat ice cream this way as a kid. He basically filled up a cup around 3/5 with his favorite flavor of the week. Then filled the remaining space with milk. Scooping up a bit of milk and ice cream with each taste. Delicious!

I’m also a pregnant lady with the blessed task of eating ice cream for 2. My husband got me an ice cream maker for a gift. I want to try making new flavors. Next on the list: strawberry basil! Yum. I’m definitely going to have to try the Graeter’s Mocha Chip though. Rach, you made my mouth water.

One summer i challenged myself to make a different flavor of homemade ice cream every week. It was one of the best summers ever.

YUM, I love ice cream year-round!  I’m one of those people that can enjoy a bowl of ice cream in the dead of winter just as happily as in the summer, haha.

Love eating my vanilla ice cream with a hot cup of coffee! cold-hot-cold-hot YUM :9

I have fond memories of eating ice cream sandwiches (Neapolitan of course!) with my boyfriend in the early years of dating. Whenever we’re out and about during ice cream season, we’re on the constant look out for those striped sammies, but they’re actually pretty rare!

I was introduced to Graeter’s Ice Cream when I moved to Cincinnati for a half a year to work on the national launch of The Jerry Springer Show. Besides a wonderful working experience with Jerry, who is a great guy btw, I took away my lifelong love for Graters and even ordered it by mail when I returned to NYC.

When I was young, my French dad always kept a jar of dark rum stuffed to the brim with raisins to mix into some quality vanilla ice cream. This is, by the way, the same dad that let me eat ice cream from the tub when mom wasn’t around and always made sure we could sneak off on ice cream excursions. My dad and ice cream, I love them both, and I think they have a thing for each other too.

I’m a sucker for good ice cream. This past weekend I made Fig Goat’s Milk ice cream from fresh figs in my neighbor’s yard. It was pretty tasty, but I think my favorite flavor is coffee.
