There are so many reasons why I am totally and completely content with the end of 2010. Not because it was a bad year but because it was just what it should have been. Happiness fit itself into our lives appropriately through friends, family, food (of course) and many unexpected twists and turns. Difficulty filled in the gaps in order to keep us grounded in the reality that is life. In this sense, 2010 has been a very balanced year. So, with an open mind and a happy heart, I welcome 2011!
In preparation for this post, I looked through all the recipes I’ve shared over the past year. It was actually really neat going through everything. I tend to forget what I’ve put up here from time to time, so New Year’s is a great excuse to rummage through the files of my blog. The recipes listed below are some of my favorites from the past months. I also added a new recipe: Apple-Sage Skewers. I used bamboo skewers to combine apple, swiss cheese, sage and black pepper with a drizzle of Meyer lemon juice. Fresh and delicious!
Take a peak at the menu-action below! These are all very simple recipes that are perfect for a New Year’s Eve party. (I had a little trouble adding the links to the photos and the menu, so they are listed at the end of the post.) I hope you’ll share some good food, festive libations, and lots of love with people close to you as you ring in the new year!

Apple-Sage Skewers
Makes about 30 skewers
2 cups swiss cheese, cubed
2 apples, cubed
about 30 sage leaves
1 Meyer Lemon, juiced
1 tablespoon black pepper
In a small bowl, combine the apples, lemon juice and black peppers. Toss gently to coat. (The lemon juice will also keep the apples from turning brown so you can prepare ahead of time.)
Put together the skewers like this: 1 cube of apple, one cube of swiss cheese wrapped in a sage leave, and one more apple cube. Arrange the skewers on a platter and serve.
