Camping: Izu Peninsula, Japan

by Tokyo Terrace on September 13, 2010

Every year, our friends in Japan get together and go for a camping trip. We load up a van, squeeze in, spend 3 hours driving to the Izu Peninsula and set up camp on a beautiful beach. Swimming, snorkeling, relaxing and enjoying some food, wine and beer makes for a perfect celebration at the end of a long hot summer. Plus it feels great to get out of the city and into what seems like another world compared to our Tokyo life.

After a few hours in the sun, we enjoyed some pork and chicken skewers, chicken drummies, and grilled vegetables for dinner, cooked by our friends Triston and Justyna.

Simple, fun, and exactly what I needed to remember one of the many reasons why life in Japan can be so wonderful.

you're such a classy camper! And camping in Japan, I'm sure you don't have the threat of being mauled by a black bear like we do here in California. Lucky girl you!

Yes, classy camping is my favorite kind of camping :) No bears in Japan, but when I camp in Minnesota we have to be wary of them. Rawr!

I love your blog, you're so lucky to live in Japan! I dream of going, probably next year (finally!) I will read you until I go to get a sense of the place. A Westerner in Asia always has a unique perspective and I'm sure you must encounter plenty of situations worth writing about. Until your next post, I have a lot of reading to do browsing through your archive!
Cheers and nice to meet you :)

Sweet, I like camping, Japanese-style! Beautiful photos, as always. Hey, wonder what the Japanese equivalent of S'mores would be? S'more Sushi. Er… no. :P
