Cocktail Friday: Thunderstorms and Red Wine

by Tokyo Terrace on July 26, 2009

One of the best ways to wake up in the morning is by the sound of rain and thunder just outside the window. Something about those sounds fills me with a peaceful happiness. Especially when I can curl up under my blanket and drift back to sleep.

That is how I woke up this Friday morning. It was wonderful. And when I did decide to crawl out of bed, I walked into the kitchen to see Brad making coffee. Pefection.

Even though the weather is warm and humid today, the clouds make me think of drinking a beautiful glass of red wine while watching a movie, reading a book, or spending time with my family. I typically reserve my red wine cravings for cool fall evenings and cozy winter nights. The full, robust flavor and rich color of a glass of Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon is enough to give me goosebumps. Sometimes I cannot wait until the days begin to cool down. At those times, I have to give in to the velvety color and tantalizing taste of a big red.

Last weekend, I went to a wine shop with Brad, my sister and my parents in St. Paul, MN. Walking through the door was like stepping into a grown-up candy store. The walls were lined with wines from all over the world; France, Spain, Greece, and Italy to name a few.

We bought two delicious bottles of wine- one from Napa and one from Mendoza. I was inspired to put together a meal made entirely from the grill to compliment the lush flavors of the Zinfandel and Malbec. Lovely, comforting, and a very special treat on a summer evening. So, for this cocktail Friday, consider having a glass of your favorite red (or white or rosé), kick back, and enjoy the weekend!

I took your advice. Here on the desk beside me is a glass of Cab. Sauv. Sipping it, munching on fried mozzarella…
Love to you both – & cheers! :)

Thanks Kamran! I have missed being at Tokyo Terrace. This summer has been so busy that I can rarely find time for blogging. Hopefully more time will present itself soon, because I miss it! Thanks for the comments!

Not sure how much time you have left in the states, but Cannon Falls (where I live, about 45 min south of the cities) has a fabulous, adorably little winery. :)

Hey Rachel! Love reading your blog :-)

Was the wine shop, by chance, Solo Vino on Selby?

I live practically next door! It’s fabulous.

I think that appeal of thunderstorms is a midwestern thing – I try to explain it to my in laws and they just don’t get it

It can be difficult for some people to understand- there is just something strangely comforting about a good thunderstorm!
